Northside Neighborhood Farewell: Late Summer, 2010

Since 1983, Shelter House has called 331 North Gilbert Street, Iowa City its home.

Shelter House's new facility at 429 Southgate Avenue, Iowa City is now under construction, with a target completion date of October 2010. Plans are underway to honor the neightborhood that Shelter House has called home for 27 years with a farewell event in the late summer of 2010.

After 27 Years, We're Moving

Why is Shelter House moving to a new facility?

Our new faciltiy will help us provide better services and improved living space to our clients. The building on Gilbert Street has enough space for 29 people to stay overnight. Due to lack of space, Shelter House must turn away approximately 10 people each night.

The new facility will house 70 individuals. In addition to this expanded emergency shelter capapcity, it will enable Shelter House to expand job training programs and other services.
