On August 28, 2009, Shelter House was awarded a grant of $2.66 million from the Iowa Finance Authority for the construction of the new shelter facility. Combining this award with pledges, donations, and grants, we reached our capital campaign goal! We are now entering the construction phase of the new facility.
This exciting news leads us to the next phase of the Capital Campaign—to build a fund to endow Shelter House operations. The donations and pledges for the Shelter House Endowment Fund will go directly into this fund at the Community Foundation of Johnson County. The goal for this fund is $4 million.
Comment from a friend:
"I drove by the new Shelter House yesterday (April 5th) and it is exciting to see the progress. To actually see the structure is inspiring after all the work and dedication of so many people to make it happen. I look forward to seeing it's progress during the summer months. I'm praying that the anticipated completion date will be met and those who need the service will have a safe and clean environment.
Thanks to all the staff and volunteers for their commitment."
