Shelter House is a non-profit organization with 501(c)3 status, and all donations are tax-deductible. Donations can be made in any amount to Operations and the Shelter House Endowment Fund.
Operations
Donations to Operations support the day-to-day activities and utility costs. It also provides matching funds to the vocational training program grant (STAR).
Our work touches the lives of hundreds of men, women, and children each year—offering hope and opportunity. By combining the thoughtful and generous contributions of like-minded individuals throughout our community we are able to continue to serve—able to keep our doors open.

Endowment Fund
The new shelter (targeted to open October 2010) will vastly improve our shelter services and enable us to deliver, design, and offer more programs and services to those transitioning out of homelessness. Shelter House will face increased operating expenses at the new location—everything from increased utilities to an increase in overnight staff (going from one staff per shift to two). Therefore, we have initiated a campaign to build an endowment fund for the new shelter.
Contributions to the Shelter House Endowment Fund go directly to the Community Foundation of Johnson County. Please print and complete the Shelter House Endowment Pledge Form to donate to this fund and refer to the Endow Iowa Tax Information Sheet.
New Facility
On August 28, 2009, Shelter House was awarded a grant of $2.66 million from the Iowa Finance Authority for the construction of the new shelter facility. Your donations and pledges leveraged this award; please continue to fulfill your pledge to Shelter House. We have reached our capital campaign goal and now enter the construction phase of the new facility.
