If you have limited time to give or are not ready to commit to a lengthier volunteer position, these volunteer opportunities are a great way to get involved. They can be done by an individual, family, or community group. You can help Shelter House and the homeless clients we serve by giving just a few hours of your time!
Activity Night Facilitators- Every Saturday evening we would like to provide fun and entertaining activities for our clients. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Organize and carry out an activity for our clients.
- Set up and clean up from the event.
- If providing snacks or games, plan for 70 clients to participate.
- All activities must be approved by the Volunteer Coordinator in advance. Suggestions can also be made by the Volunteer Coordinator. Examples could be movie night with popcorn, Bingo, or a craft project.
Fundraising Event Volunteer- Shelter House carries out several fundraising events throughout the year which helps raise money to keep our doors open, pay our utilities, provide financial support for men, women, and children, and much more. Fundraising events include our Book Sale, Gala Auction, and Phone-A-Thon. See below for more details on each event.
Book Sale Volunteer- Our Book Sale Fundraiser is typically held in February. Volunteers help set up, publicize, clean up, sell books, and provide snacks for the event. This is the perfect event for book lovers or people who can lift heavy books (although not all volunteer positions require lifting).
Gala Volunteer- Our annual Gala is a great time to dress up and appreciate our donors, staff, and volunteers. It is typically held in April. Duties will vary depending on the needs of the day. Volunteers may assist in the setup, silent and live auctions, registration, check out, and cleanup process.
Phone-A-Thon Volunteer- Our Phone-A-Thon is held in the fall of each year. Volunteers gather at a central location to make phone calls to solicit contributions for Shelter House and to give area residents more information about our services. Volunteers can participate in one evening, or return multiple nights (usually up to four). This is a great event for someone who likes to talk to new people and spread the word about Shelter House.
